FAQs

Here you should find answers to any questions you may have on services offered.

WAXING FAQs

Q. Does the type of wax used matter?
A. Absolutely!!! Just ask our clients. They will tell you the wax we use feels less painful than other spas. It is because we use a creamy wax with essential oil of Lavender. The lavender is a natural antiseptic and  calms the skin.

Q. What is the difference between a Brazilian and a Playboy?
A. For a Playboy, think of a Landing Strip and nothing else. For a Brazilian, think no hair ANYWHERE.

Q. How long do I have to wait before my first wax?
A. To get the best results, I need your hair to be at least ¼” long. This takes the average person about 1 to 2 weeks of growth. After the first wax, as long as you do not shave between services, you’ll find the second wax to be a lot more comfortable. This is because your hair will grow in finer and more sparse. Typically, the ‘cactus’ feel you have with shaving will not exist with waxing, making it easier to grow out between waxes.

Q. I got my eyebrows waxed once and the skin came off. Why?
A. There can be several reasons for this. If you are using skin care products that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids of any kind, these can cause the skin to lift while waxing. Another area of caution is aggressive exfoliation of the skin, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Prescription medications such as antibiotics, Acutane, or topical ointments such as Retin-A or Renova can cause the skin to thin and lift while being waxed. Other products to keep in mind are Strivectin, Proactiv, Avita and Avage. There is also the possibility that your technician may be inexperienced or is using an inferior wax that is not gentle. Our recommendation is that if you are unsure of any topical creams or prescriptions you are using, ask first. Keep in mind that it’s difficult to predict how skin will react, no matter how many precautions are taken.

Q. Is there anything I should do to prepare for waxing and to be comfortable?
A. Yes. There are a few things you can do. If you are a female client, schedule your waxing service the first two weeks after your cycle. Your sensitivity level is a lot less during this time. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these can stimulate, making you more sensitive and increases the redness after waxing. Pregnancy also increases sensitivity.

Q. How long will my skin stay red?
A. Depends on the person and the skin type. For most people it takes up to 1/2 hour. After waxing, do not tan or jump in chlorine for at least 24 hours. Avoid perfumes, scrubs, or other irritants the day of the waxing service. If you’re a bride or attending a special occasion, we recommend receiving waxing services a month before your special day to see how your skin reacts. If everything is fine, schedule another wax a day or two before the event.

PRE TANNING FAQs

How long does a sunless spray tan last?

Depending on a person's activities and skin type, the tan lasts approximately 7 days (up to 10 for some people). With follow up applications, a person can maintain the tan indefinitely.

What is the difference between being airbrushed and using cream or lotion sunless tanners at home?

Imagine the difference between finger painting your car and using an airbrush to paint it. Even with the greatest of care, and help from a friend to get all the places you cannot reach, you can't duplicate the even consistency and natural look of an airbrushed tan.

What is the advantage of sunless spray tanning over UV tanning?

Spray tanning is an alternative form of tanning. People with sensitive skin or people who have a hard time tanning, be it natural or in tanning beds will find this form of tanning very comforting. One application with spray tanning will be equivalent to approximately 6 tanning bed sessions, there for making it cost effective. Spray tanning also spares the skin of excessive wear and tear and free from potential burns and dangerous UV rays caused by tanning beds.

How do I prepare for my tanning session?

For the maximum result, before your session, shower and exfoliate the skin at least 4 hours before your tan. Make sure your skin is free of perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants, gels or any product on the skin that would create a barrier.

What should I wear?

Attire for women is whatever you are comfortable with. Many things can be done to minimize tan lines. The key is your comfort level. Attire for men is boxers, swim trunks or shorts. Your tanning specialist will use the utmost discretion. Loose fitting clothing should be worn for leaving the facility. We have found that DHA reacts with wool, nylon, and silk. These fabrics should not be worn during or immediately following your tanning session. We also recommend that you wear sandals instead of socks and tennis shoes.

Is your spray tanning safe?

YES! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and drugs used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin), which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient.

What if a person normally can't get very tan?

A person CAN get a sunless tan even if they can't get a real tan. Airbrush tanning does not need a person's melanocytes to be in working order. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the active ingredient in our solution, saturates the skin cells in the outermost layer of skin, where it turns the protein in the cells golden tan.

Any other benefits of using spray tans?

Fast, convenient, safe and effective. Spray tan today, look great tonight. Did you know that a tan physique gives you a slimmer appearance? That's right, not to mention a very healthy glow. Get the bronzed, sexy look all of Hollywood is sporting without the harmful, aging effects of the sun. Our formula hydrates the skin and leaves it moisturized and silky.

How long after the application can I go in water or sweat?

I recommend at least 12 hours. Sunless tan longevity varies from person to person and according to your lifestyle. Long exposure to water will fade your tan. Your outer cells will start to soak up water, which dilutes the effect of the tan. The longer you are in the water, the lighter your tan will get. Having a
weekly maintenance tan allows the solution to saturate the skin better. The tan will then hold up longer in water. Be sure to moisturize every day, this helps maintain the tan.

How can I minimize exfoliation from hot tubs, swimming pools and the ocean after I get a spray tan?

After your tan has developed and after your first post-tan shower, you can minimize water activity exfoliation by liberally and frequently apply a good, strong waterproof sunscreen before submersing yourself. These can help protect your tan from fading.

Can pregnant or nursing mothers get a spray tan?

Yes! Just make sure that you inform us if you are pregnant while scheduling and if you are allergic to any lotions, etc.  The concern some doctors have is over whether or not the active ingredient (DHA) is able to enter the blood stream; the indications are that it cannot. DHA only penetrates the outermost of the skin.  Ask your OBGYN if you are unsure.

Will a spray tan stain my pajamas or sheets?

Until your first post-tan shower, your tan will stain some fabrics (For example: nylon, silk, wool and polyester). However, a good soaking in water will usually lift the stain from the fabric. Most fabrics and materials are completely safe — if the tan color rubs off on any other fabric it will simply wash out. Many have reported that the Oxy cleaning products, like Clorox's non-bleach Oxygen Action, do a great job. FYI: a commonly reported cause of the color guide coming off are on bed sheets — excess sweat from menopausal hot flashes.

Why do I need an exfoliator — why can't I use a loofa or shower puff?

Using an exfoliator insures smoother softer skin for the tan application, resulting in an even and longer lasting tan. If you do not use an exfoliator, you will be tanning skin that is about to fall off and your tan will disappear more quickly. Loofas and puffs do not conform to the body and will result in an uneven exfoliation and can create an uneven look to your tan.

Should I shave before or after my Tan application?

Shaving is a form of exfoliation so you should shave about 4-8 hours before the application. Shaving after will take off some of your tan, so shave before. After your application, be sure to use a new razor as old dull blades can mar your results.

Should I remove any deodorant?

Yes. For the best result remove deodorant and moisturize under arm. Wait 3 hours to reapply deodorant. It may turn green when deodorant is reapplied. If so, the green will rinse off in the shower.

I like my tan just the way it is — how do I keep it?

Make sure you moisturize every day.

XTREME EYELASH EXTENSION FAQs

Pre-appointment information:
Shower before your appointment. It is recommended that you do not get your lashes wet for at least 24 hours after your application.
Please do not wear any makeup, moisturizers or eye cream to your appointment. If you wear contacts, you would be better to wear your glasses to your appointment. You may resume wearing your contacts after your appointment.
Avoid oil-based cleansers, lotion, makeup or eye-makeup removers, while wearing Xtreme Lashes.

CARE & MAINTENANCE
How do I take care of Xtreme Lashes®?
Though Xtreme Lashes® are easy to maintain, the first twenty-four hours are crucial for a strong bond. You should keep your lashes dry and avoid touching them. After twenty-four hours, care is fairly simple: avoid oil based products and be gentle with the lashes. They are resistant to water, sweat and tears.
Your Lash Stylist should give you a detailed, easy care maintenance instruction manual following your procedure. In general, to maintain your new look and extend the life of your lashes, follow these simple guidelines:
* For the first 24 hours after application the lashes should not be exposed to water or steam to allow the adhesive time to fully bond. We recommend avoiding swimming and the spa for 48 hours after lash application for best results.
* Be gentle with your lashes; do not pull on the extensions or rub the eyes excessively.
* Avoid the use of oil-based products on or around the lashes and do not use waterproof mascara. Water based mascara and water based mascara remover may be used if desired. Apply the mascara sparingly and remove it gently with a water-based eye makeup remover. Ask your Xtreme Lashes® Stylist if she carries the Xtreme Lashes® water-based mascaras and Xtreme Eye Makeup Remover, specially formulated for eyelash extensions, or contact our customer service department at 1.877.BIG.LASH for purchasing information. Apply mascara on the tips only. Note: Xtreme Lashes® are ideally suited for individuals who want longer, fuller lashes without the need for much additional eye makeup. Constant application of heavy eye makeup, particularly mascara and eyeliner, may reduce the lifespan of your Xtreme Lashes® and require more frequent touch ups.
* Ask your Xtreme Lashes® Stylist if she carries Xtreme Lashes® Protective Coating. You can apply Protective Coating once or twice per week on your new lashes to preserve the look and extend the life of your Xtreme Lashes®. Brush on from the base up to the tips. This coating also gives the lashes a wonderful shine!
We recommend getting a touch up every two to four weeks to maintain maximum fullness of your Xtreme Lashes®.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing Xtreme Lashes®?
You can enjoy these lashes with little need to adjust your lifestyle. Provided you follow the simple maintenance instructions, are not involved excessively in heat or water activities, and treat the lashes with care they will last through the natural lash life cycle and fall off with the natural lash, not before. You can swim, shower and spa as usual so long as these activities are not engaged in excessively. (Please do not swim or spa for 48 hours after the procedure to allow the adhesive to fully cure.)
A competitive swimmer who is constantly in the chlorinated water may lose some lashes earlier than the average person as may someone who gets very frequent facials (weekly) or goes into the steam room daily.  Doing an above average level of activities related to heat or constant water exposure may weaken the adhesive bond causing some early lash loss.
Do I need to use any special products on my Xtreme Lashes®?
There are no products that are required to be applied to the lashes.  Optionally, consumers can use Xtreme Protective Coating® which acts as a sealer on the adhesive creating an even stronger bond to the natural lash.  It can be applied one to two times per week on the lashes to extend the lasting power of Xtreme Lashes®.  Xtreme Lashes® especially recommends this product to those clients with oily skin or those who do not carefully maintain their lashes.
If you choose to wear mascara we recommend using one of the Xtreme Lashes® water-based mascaras and Xtreme Eye Makeup Remover, specially formulated for eyelash extensions. Additional curl can be safely added to the lashes as well with an Xtreme Lashes® Heated Eyelash Curler. Ask for these items from your local Lash Stylist or contact our customer service department at 1.877.BIG.LASH for purchasing information. Apply mascara on the tips only.
Can I apply mascara to Xtreme Lashes®?
Indeed, one of the main advantages of Xtreme Lashes® is that you never need mascara again. However, if you must have the mascara look, only water based mascara can be used. You can purchase one of our specially formulated Xtreme Lashes® mascaras from your local Xtreme Lashes® Stylist or contact our customer service department at 1.877.BIG.LASH for purchasing information. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara along with any type of oil based mascara will dissolve the adhesive and cause your Xtreme Lashes® to fall off.
How often should I get touch-ups?
A natural lash typically sheds every 60 to 90 days and is replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. Since Xtreme Lashes® are applied one by one to each individual hair, after 2-4 weeks, approximately 1/3 of the lashes will have cycled out. At this point, touch ups are required to replace the lashes that have completed their life cycle. Touch ups generally take a short time and are relatively inexpensive.
What do I do if I want them removed?
As the natural lashes cycle out and shed, Xtreme Lashes® will shed with them. However, if necessary, Xtreme Lashes® can be professionally removed by a Lash Stylist using our specially formulated adhesive remover. The removal process normally takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes for a full set. Never try to remove eyelash extensions on your own. Damage can be caused by pulling the extensions off with the natural lash, removing the natural lash before it is ready to shed.
